ESP

So apparently, my boyfriend and I have ESP. No, not my husband, my boyfriend… Tyler Florence. Tonight I planned to make two dishes from my Tyler’s Ultimate cookbook. When I went to get the Food Network links, I discovered that I picked two dishes paired in the same episode of Tyler’s Ultimate! (I swear, the book doesn’t mention this combo. It was totally extrasensory perception. Or that the two just sound like they’d go well together. Or that I happened to buy asparagus today because it’s literally the only spring vegetable available in this town.) The attractive nuisance complimented me on my executive chef-ing and food pairing abilities, only for me to crap all over him by getting excited about the ESP thing. My husband is so nice. Although, I’m pretty nice, too. Look what I made for him:

Baked Rigatoni with Eggplant and Sausage

Asparagus Steamed in a Paper Bag

Quite a pair indeed! The rigatoni is definitely going on the list of repeat offenders. (Yay for me: I got the attractive nuisance to like eggplant!) And the asparagus was delicious. Boyfriend was right; much more flavorful than regular old steaming or blanching. We’re loving the Italian Sunday dinners. I see a trend…

And tonight’s wine pairing: Arroyo Robles, 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon from our wine club days. Bravissimo!
